Regardless of what the Trump administration thinks about climate change, the clean energy jobs sector in the US is currently creating new positions at a faster rate than most other sectors within the country’s economy.

Combined, the country’s solar and wind industries currently employ over 300,000 individuals, specifically having around 210,000 and 90,000 workers, respectively. Jobs in the solar power sector have jumped 123% since 2010, while that of the wind energy sector has increased 20% more than in 2015.

According to predictions, the wind sector alone would create around 300,000 more jobs by 2030, as the energy-generation capacity of the country is expected to increase by 20% during that period.

Now, even if the US closes its borders, clean energy jobs will still drive the country to remain globally competitive. The US International Trade Administration reports:

“Technology improvements, cost declines, and the catalytic influence of new financing structures, have turned the (renewable energy) sector into a driver of economic growth – both in the United States and around the world. The renewable energy industry remains one of the most vibrant, fast-changing, and transformative sectors of the global economy.”

All of these numbers are supported by the Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) and Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. Fundamentally, these government agencies have been spearheading innovation in the new jobs sector.
