Moss & Associates, a prominent construction firm in the US, has donated $10 million to the Florida International University (FIU) College of Engineering & Computing.

The gift, which was given by the firm’s executive vice-president Chad Moss through the Moss Foundation Inc., is considered to be the largest by an alumnus yet. Apparently, Moss is a graduate from FIU with a degree in construction management. Stating his reasons for donating, he said:

“I hope this gift leads to generations of students who are curious, passionate about learning and equipped to provide innovative solutions to the industry challenges of the future.”

On the other hand, FIU has pledged to rename the college to the Moss School of Construction, Infrastructure and Sustainability in recognition of Moss’s construction firm. It also plans to reorganize itself to be able to offer new approaches in sustainable construction and a broader perspective of development.

Expressing his gratitude for the gift, FIU president Mark Rosenberg said:

“This generous and history-making donation will help us educate a new generation of construction professionals who will have an impact on our community and beyond.”

According to Rosenberg, they will use the gift to support scholarships, create endowments for a chair in construction management, and enhance faculty research.
