According to Israeli Transportation and Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz, his country is already engaged in discussions with the new US administration regarding construction in Judea and Samaria.

In a statement, the minister disclosed some important details about the talks. He said:

“The construction in the settlements is the most urgent issue at the moment. The discussion with the administration is about building within the settlements and construction within the municipal jurisdiction of the settlements. Our position is to allow construction within the jurisdiction of the settlements in the coming years. This will allow us to reach a hundred thousand units, and this will be ten percent of the scope of the built-up area, which today is [only] two to three percent.”

Katz pointed out that the project is very important in strengthening the settlements in the Judea and Samaria region. Also, he said that it is related to attaching certain areas to Jerusalem with municipal independence and allowing them to apply for Israeli sovereignty.

Basing on the results of the recent meeting between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Katz said that the positions of the new US administration towards Israel have substantially changed from the previous one.

He stated that Trump has pledged to protect Israel against all unfair decisions by international organizations, making the country a primary ally of the US.
