The Canadian company Energy and Mines has announced that it will hold its international mining summit at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Perth, Western Australia on June 29-30.

Titled “Energy and Mines Australia Summit”, the event aims to offer a timely platform for leaders in the mining industry to meet with renewable energy and finance experts from around the world to look into reliable, but cheap, power sources for mines. As it has been pointed out, the country’s mining sector is currently exploring renewable energy options due to carbon reduction targets, concerns on grid reliability, and high energy costs.

The mining summit will feature local and international case studies from mining companies, such as SunSHIFT, that are already integrating renewable energy solutions in their operations. According to the company’s general manager, Will Rayward-Smith:

“We look forward to providing the mining community with an update around our modular, recoverable solar assets, designed specifically to provide mines with affordable, reliable and flexible power.”

Aside from SunSHIFT, other sponsors of the event include ABB, GHD, Advisian, VSUN Energy, and Hatch. Expressing his appreciation to the participants of the event, Energy and Mines director Adrienne Baker said:

“We are delighted with the response we have had thus far from miners and renewables experts interested in participating in our Australia Summit which marks our 10th event on renewables for mines in key mining centers. Energy is top strategic concern for the mining sector in Australia and we are beginning to see more and more innovative, groundbreaking projects for mines that demonstrate the commercial viability and performance of alternative power.”
