Fluor to Perform Front-End Engineering and Design for BP’s Gas Compression Project

BP PLC has chosen the multinational engineering and construction firm Fluor Corporation to perform the front-end engineering and design (FEED) for its gas compression project at the Cassia Platform in Trinidad and Tobago.

Under the agreement of the two companies, Fluor will design a new offshore gas compression platform, a new connecting bridge and some modifications to the existing hub. Basically, the new platform will be used to compress natural gas produced at the existing Cassia platform.

Stating his company’s responsibilities in the project, president for Fluor’s energy and chemicals business Mark Fields said:

“Fluor has 50 years of experience developing some of the world’s most complex offshore projects, including several BP facilities in Trinidad and Tobago. In addition, our Stork division currently provides maintenance, modification and asset integrity services to BP’s offshore assets there. With a focus on maximizing local content, we will deliver a safe, reliable and capital‑efficient solution to BP.”

John Harrower, executive director of Fluor’s offshore operations, also stated that the company is going to utilize an integrated solution model to work on the project. As he pointed out, this model enhances the design process, reduces costs, and improves execution using local resources.

FEED activities are expected to be completed this year, while the first compressed gas is expected to be produced in the facility in 2020.
